Common Questions About Inherited Homes

Common Questions About Inherited Homes

  • Can I sell the house before probate is finished? Usually not until someone has legal authority to sign. In many cases, that comes early in the process, once the court appoints the executor. Your attorney will confirm. We can prepare the home in the meantime.
  • Do we have to fix it up before selling? No. Many inherited homes sell as-is. We'll show you what light prep might add to the price, so you can decide whether it's worth it.
  • What if my siblings and I don't agree? That's common. We give everyone the same value range and options so the family can make a decision together. Disputes over the estate itself are a question for your attorney.
  • What happens to the stuff inside? We can connect you with estate sale companies, cleanout crews and donation pickups. Take your time with anything sentimental first.
  • I live out of state. Can you still help? Yes. Most of the process can be handled by phone, video and e-signature.
  • Is the house still insured while it's empty? Many homeowner's policies change once a home is vacant. Call the insurance company early to confirm coverage.
