Living in Navasota, TX

Navasota is a historic small town in Grimes County, about 20 miles southeast of College Station on SH 6. It's a good fit if you want small-town living, room to spread out, and an easy drive to Bryan-College Station or northwest Houston.

Getting around

SH 6 connects Navasota to College Station and Houston, and SH 105 runs east toward Conroe and west toward Brenham.

Things to do

  • The Blues Capital of Texas. The Texas Legislature gave Navasota the title in 2005 in honor of blues musician Mance Lipscomb. You can visit his statue downtown.
  • Navasota Blues Fest every August
  • Historic downtown, with antique shops and local restaurants
  • Washington-on-the-Brazos, the birthplace of Texas, a short drive away
  • Bluebonnet season in the spring, when the back roads around town are hard to beat

Schools

Navasota is served by Navasota ISD.

Homes and acreage

You'll find historic and Victorian homes near downtown, established neighborhoods, and plenty of rural acreage and ranch property in the surrounding area. Acreage purchases come with extra questions, like wells, septic, surveys and ag exemptions, and I'll help you work through each one.

A little history

Frank Hamer, the Texas Ranger who later tracked down Bonnie and Clyde, served as Navasota's city marshal from 1908 to 1911.
