Living in Crowley, TX
Crowley is a small city in southern Tarrant County, bordered by Fort Worth to the north and east and about 15 miles south of downtown Fort Worth. It has grown quickly, from about 12,800 people in 2010 to more than 18,000 in 2020, and today it's a popular option for buyers who want newer homes within easy reach of Fort Worth.
Getting around
The center of Crowley sits where FM 1187 meets FM 731 (Crowley Road). FM 1187 has an interchange with the Chisholm Trail Parkway just west of town, which makes the drive into downtown Fort Worth and the Cultural District quick. I-35W is a few miles east, Burleson is just to the southeast, and DFW Airport is about 35 miles away.
Things to do
- Bicentennial Park, with an 18-hole disc golf course, a splash pad, trails and creeks
- Crowley Crossing, a downtown park next to City Hall with a playground, dog park and event stage
- Dionne Bagsby All-Sports Complex, with ball fields, tennis and pickleball courts and a walking loop
- Crowley Recreation Center, with a fitness room, basketball courts and a walking track
- Crowley Veterans Plaza, a memorial with walls for each branch of service
Schools
Crowley is served by Crowley ISD, which also covers much of southwest Fort Worth and parts of Johnson County. Homes just outside the city can fall in neighboring districts, so I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.
Homes and neighborhoods
Most homes in Crowley are newer, and there's a steady supply of new construction, which often means builder incentives worth comparing. Newer communities like SunnyCreek and Tarrytown have been filling in around town, and you'll also find established neighborhoods from the 1980s and 1990s and a few older homes near the original downtown.
A little history
Crowley grew up around a Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway depot built in 1885 and was named for S. H. Crowley, the railroad's master of transportation. It incorporated in 1951.
