Living in Franklin, TX

Franklin is the county seat of Robertson County, sitting near the middle of the county in the Brazos Valley. It's part of the Bryan-College Station metro area, but it keeps a true small-town feel, with a historic courthouse and plenty of open country around it.

Getting around

US 79 passes through Franklin and connects to Hearne, about 12 miles to the southwest, where you can pick up SH 6 south to Bryan-College Station.

Things to do

Robertson County Courthouse, listed on the National Register of Historic Places
Camp Hearne WWII Historic Site and the Hearne Depot museum, a short drive away
Bryan-College Station, for Texas A&M events, shopping and dining

Schools

Franklin ISD serves the town with Roland Reynolds Elementary, Franklin Middle School and Franklin High School. Rural addresses can fall in neighboring districts, so I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.

Homes, land and acreage

Most properties around Franklin are small-town homes, rural acreage, and farm and ranch land. Buying land is different from buying a house in town, so I'll help you check the details that matter:

Water: wells or a water supply corporation
Septic systems and soil
Surveys, easements and road access
Ag or wildlife tax exemptions
Deed restrictions, minerals and floodplain

A little history

The town grew up along the railroad in the 1870s and was first called Morgan. It became the county seat in 1879 and was renamed Franklin after the county's original seat, since another Texas post office already used the name Morgan.
