Living in Kyle, TX

Kyle is in eastern Hays County, about 22 miles southwest of downtown Austin, and it's one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas. It pairs a small historic downtown with new neighborhoods, shopping and parks, and it sits right between Austin and San Marcos.

Getting around

I-35 runs through Kyle, with SH 45 Toll to the north and FM 150 and FM 1626 connecting to Buda, Driftwood and the Hill Country. SH 21 and SH 123 are close by to the east. San Antonio is about 58 miles south.

Things to do

Mary Kyle Hartson Park, the downtown park near City Hall and the Kyle Train Depot, home to Kyle Market Days
Lake Kyle Park, the city's largest developed park, with a 12.5-acre lake, a fishing dock, trails and access to the Plum Creek Trail
The Katherine Anne Porter House, the childhood home of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author, now a literary center that hosts readings
The Auction Oak, where the first town lots were sold in 1880

Schools

Kyle is served by Hays CISD. I confirm the school assignment for every address.

Homes and neighborhoods

Most homes in Kyle were built from the 2000s to today, and there's still plenty of new construction, which often means builder incentives worth comparing. Plum Creek, a 2,200-acre master-planned community that started in 1999, is one of the best known, and you'll also find older homes near downtown and acreage on the outskirts.

A little history

Kyle was platted in 1880 when the railroad came through land owned by Fergus Kyle. His daughter, Mary Kyle Hartson, became mayor in 1937, and in 2021 the state named Kyle the Pie Capital of Texas.
