Living in Garden Ridge, TX

Garden Ridge is a small city of about 4,200 in southern Comal County, about 20 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio, just north of Schertz. It's almost entirely residential, with larger lots, native trees and Hill Country terrain, and the city's own motto is "Naturally Home."

Getting around

FM 3009 is the main road through Garden Ridge and connects south to I-35, about 3 miles from the center of the city. From there it's an easy drive to downtown San Antonio or north to New Braunfels, and Loop 1604 is a few minutes south. San Antonio International Airport is about 20 miles away.

Schools

Garden Ridge is served by Comal ISD. Attendance zones within the district can change as new schools open, so I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.

Homes and large lots

Garden Ridge has very little commercial development and a lot of space between homes. Many lots are half an acre or larger, and some neighborhoods, like Trophy Oaks and Wild Wind, have lots of an acre or more. You'll find homes from the 1980s and 1990s in areas like Forest Waters, along with semi-custom and custom homes and newer construction such as Heimer Estates. With larger lots, I also check deed restrictions, easements and any flood zones.

A little history

German emigrants settled this part of Comal County in the mid-1800s, but the city itself is young: Garden Ridge incorporated in 1972, starting with only a few hundred residents.
