Living in Snook & Somerville, TX

Snook and Somerville are two small Burleson County towns between Bryan-College Station and Brenham, tied together by Lake Somerville and a lot of open country. If you want land, lake access or a quiet small-town setting within reach of College Station, this area is worth a look.

Getting around

Snook sits on FM 60 about 13 miles southwest of College Station. Somerville is on SH 36, about 15 miles northwest of Brenham and about 17 miles southeast of Caldwell, the county seat.

Things to do

Lake Somerville, with over 11,000 acres of water for fishing, boating, kayaking and swimming
Lake Somerville State Park, with the Birch Creek and Nails Creek units, camping, and nearly 40 miles of trails
Lake Somerville Trailway, about 13 miles long, open to hiking, biking and horseback riding
Brenham and College Station, each a short drive away for shopping and dining

Schools

Snook is served by Snook ISD and Somerville by Somerville ISD. Rural addresses around the lake can fall in other districts, so I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.

Homes and acreage

You'll find small-town homes, lake-area properties and plenty of rural acreage. Before you buy land or a lake-area home, I'll help you check water, septic, surveys and access, ag exemptions, and floodplain and Corps of Engineers boundaries near the lake.

A little history

Snook grew from a Czech farming settlement once called Sebesta and was named in 1895 for Caldwell postmaster John S. Snook. Somerville was a Santa Fe railroad town named for railway president Albert Somerville, and the Army Corps of Engineers completed Lake Somerville in 1966.
