Living in Del Valle, TX

Del Valle is an unincorporated area in southeast Travis County, about 7 miles southeast of downtown Austin near the Colorado River. It has no city government of its own, and parts of it have been annexed by Austin, so it's an area where I always check exactly which jurisdiction a home sits in. In return you get quick access to the airport, downtown and some of the region's biggest employers.

Getting around

SH 71 runs right through Del Valle, with SH 130 and US 183 close by. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is next door, downtown Austin is a short drive up US 183 or SH 71, and SH 130 makes it easy to head north toward Pflugerville and Round Rock or south toward Lockhart.

Circuit of the Americas, the racetrack that hosts the Formula One United States Grand Prix and MotoGP, plus concerts at the amphitheater next door
Southeast Metropolitan Park, a 299-acre Travis County park on SH 71 with ball fields, trails, playgrounds and a catch-and-release fishing pier
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, about as close to home as it gets for frequent travelers
Downtown Austin, a quick drive for dining, music and Lady Bird Lake

Schools

Del Valle is served by Del Valle ISD, which covers much of southeast Travis County. Because the area overlaps with parts of Austin, I confirm the school assignment for every address.

Homes and neighborhoods

Most homes in Del Valle are in newer subdivisions built over the last couple of decades, with new construction still going up. You'll also find older homes and rural lots with acreage farther out. Tesla's Gigafactory Texas is nearby, and with so much growth in the area, I help buyers compare builder incentives, tax rates and utility districts before they choose.

A little history

Del Valle takes its name from the Santiago Del Valle land grant, the largest in Travis County. The airport sits on the former Bergstrom Air Force Base, which opened as Del Valle Army Air Base in 1942.
