Living in Saginaw, TX
Saginaw is a city of about 24,000 in northern Tarrant County, roughly 10 miles north of downtown Fort Worth. It's known for its "Train and Grain" heritage: the tall grain elevators and flour mills near the center of town are visible for miles, and several rail lines still run right through.
Getting around
Loop 820 runs along Saginaw's south edge, with exits at Blue Mound Road (FM 156) and Business 287 (Main Street), which both lead north into the city. That makes the drive to downtown Fort Worth, the Stockyards and Alliance straightforward. I-35W is a few miles east, and DFW Airport is about 25 miles away.
Things to do
- Willow Creek Park, a 77-acre park with disc golf, a dog park, tennis courts, trails and a softball complex
- Saginaw Rail Park, a rail-themed park where three active lines pass, so you'll often see several trains in a short visit
- Saginaw Aquatic Center, with a water slide and splash area for summer
- Neighborhood parks like William Houston Park, Highland Station Park and Sagewood Park
- The Fort Worth Stockyards and Eagle Mountain Lake, each a short drive away
Schools
Saginaw is served by Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, which includes Saginaw High School and several other high schools across the district. Homes near the city's edges can fall in neighboring districts, so I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.
Homes and neighborhoods
Saginaw has a mix of older homes near the original downtown, established neighborhoods from the 1980s through the 2000s, including the Willow Creek area, and newer construction on the north and west sides. Price points here tend to be a little lower than in some other north Fort Worth suburbs, which is one reason buyers ask me about it.
A little history
Saginaw grew up with the railroads in the 1880s. In 1882, Jarvis J. Green renamed the town after Saginaw Street in Pontiac, Michigan, where he had lived, after the Post Office turned down his first choice, "Pontiac."
