Living in Lakeway, TX

Lakeway sits on the south shore of Lake Travis, about 16 miles west of Austin. It started as a resort community in the 1960s and still has that feel, with golf, the lake, Hill Country views and deer wandering through the neighborhoods.

Getting around

RM 620 is the main route through Lakeway, connecting to SH 71 and Bee Cave to the south and Four Points and US 183 to the north. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway, which opened in 2012, is right on RM 620.

Lakeway is served by Lake Travis ISD. I confirm the school assignment for every address.

Homes and neighborhoods

Lakeway has lakefront estates, golf course homes, established neighborhoods from the 1970s through the 1990s, newer gated communities, and townhomes and condos. There's even a small airpark neighborhood where most homes have attached hangars and taxiways. I check city limits, taxes and HOA details for every home we look at.

A little history

Lakeway was built on a 2,700-acre ranch, opened as a resort community in 1963 and incorporated as a village in 1974. It became a home rule city in 1990.
