Living in Floresville, TX

Floresville is the county seat of Wilson County, about 30 miles southeast of downtown San Antonio on US 181. Locals call it the "Peanut Capital of Texas," and it has a courthouse square, parks along the San Antonio River and a lot of open country around it. The city had about 7,200 people at the 2020 census.

Getting around

US 181 runs through the east side of Floresville and is the main route north to San Antonio, passing Loop 1604 near Elmendorf and connecting to I-37. San Antonio International Airport is about 40 miles away. SH 97 runs through town, heading southwest toward Pleasanton and east toward Stockdale.

Schools

Floresville is served by Floresville ISD. Wilson County also has several other districts, including La Vernia, Poth and Stockdale ISDs, and homes out in the county can fall in one of them. I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.

Homes and acreage

Floresville has older homes near the courthouse square, established neighborhoods, and newer subdivisions on the edges of town. Outside the city you'll find a lot of acreage, small farms and ranch properties across Wilson County. With rural homes, I also check well and septic, easements, mineral rights and county taxes.

A little history

Floresville was named for the Flores de Abrego family, descendants of Canary Islanders who settled the area, and it became the Wilson County seat in 1873. Former Texas Governor John Connally grew up in the Floresville area.
