Living in Jarrell, TX
Jarrell is a small city in northern Williamson County, about 17 miles north of Georgetown and roughly 40 miles north of downtown Austin. It has grown quickly in recent years, and today it's one of the places I send buyers who want newer homes and a little more space for their budget.
Getting around
I-35 runs right along Jarrell, so getting to Georgetown, Round Rock and Austin to the south, or Salado, Belton and Temple to the north, is straightforward. Salado is only about 9 miles up the road.
Things to do
Jarrell itself is quiet, but there's plenty within a short drive:
- Lake Georgetown and the parks along the North Fork of the San Gabriel River, including Cedar Breaks Park, Jim Hogg Park and Twin Springs Nature Preserve
- Inner Space Cavern, a cave you can tour off I-35 in Georgetown
- Downtown Salado, with galleries, shops and the historic Stagecoach Inn
- Lake Belton to the north for boating and fishing
Schools
Jarrell is served by Jarrell ISD, which has grown quickly along with the city and has been expanding its campuses. Some homes outside the city limits fall in neighboring districts, so I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.
Homes and neighborhoods
Most homes in Jarrell are newer, and a lot of the inventory is new construction, which often means builder incentives worth comparing. Sonterra is one of the largest communities, with sections like Eastwood and Bailey Park and amenities such as pools, a clubhouse and trails. You'll also find neighborhoods like Stonebridge Crossing and The Villages at Schwertner Ranch, plus some rural lots and acreage outside town.
A little history
Jarrell was founded in 1909 by O.D. Jarrell and E.C. Haeber where an old stagecoach road met the Bartlett Western Railroad. It incorporated as a city in 2001.
