Living in Lindale, TX

Lindale is a small city in northwestern Smith County, about 10 miles north of Tyler. Its motto is "Good Country Living," and it's a popular choice for buyers who want a small-town feel and some land while staying close to everything Tyler offers.

Getting around

Lindale sits where I-20 meets US 69, so it's one of the easiest commutes in the area. Tyler is about 10 miles south on US 69, Toll 49 bypasses Lindale on the west side for a quick route around Tyler, and Dallas is roughly 85 miles west on I-20.

Schools

Lindale is served by Lindale ISD, which was formed in 1952 when surrounding schools were consolidated. Some homes outside the city limits fall in neighboring districts, so I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.

Homes and acreage

Lindale offers a mix of established homes in town, newer subdivisions on the edges and plenty of rural homes and acreage in the rolling, wooded countryside around it. Horse properties and homes on larger lots are common, which is a big part of the appeal.

A little history

A post office opened here in 1873 under the name "Lyndale," and the spelling changed to Lindale the next year. It became a stop on the International-Great Northern Railroad in 1875, grew as a fruit and produce shipping town, and still calls itself the "Blackberry Capital of the World."
