Living in Colleyville, TX

Colleyville is a city of about 26,000 in northeast Tarrant County, roughly 14 miles from downtown Fort Worth and about 22 miles from downtown Dallas. It's known for low-density neighborhoods, larger lots and custom homes, and it's only about 5 miles from DFW Airport.

Getting around

SH 26, also called Colleyville Boulevard, runs diagonally through the city, and SH 121 runs along part of the eastern edge toward Grapevine and the airport. It's a car-first city, but the Cotton Belt Trail gives walkers and cyclists a regional connection from North Richland Hills to Grapevine.

Schools

Most of Colleyville is served by Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. Keller ISD covers the northwest part of the city, and small areas fall in Birdville ISD, Carroll ISD and Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD. With that many districts in one city, I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.

Homes and neighborhoods

Colleyville is planned to stay low-density, and its zoning includes estate and large-lot residential districts. That means many homes sit on generous lots with mature trees, and a lot of them are custom builds. You'll also find more traditional suburban streets and some older areas with smaller lots. Since lot size drives so much of the value here, I look closely at it when comparing homes.

A little history

The city is named for Dr. Lilburn Howard Colley, a Missouri-born physician and Union Army veteran who practiced in the area for about 40 years. The community took his name after a store opened in 1914, and Colleyville incorporated in 1956.
