Living in Kempner, TX

Kempner is a small city in southeastern Lampasas County, near the Lampasas River and just west of Copperas Cove. If you want a quieter, more rural setting while staying close to Fort Hood and the Killeen area, Kempner is worth a look.

Getting around

Kempner sits at the junction of US 190 and RR 2313, between Copperas Cove and Lampasas. US 190 (I-14 farther east) is the quick route to Copperas Cove, Killeen and Fort Hood, and Killeen Regional Airport is a short drive away.

Things to do

Sylvia Tucker Memorial Park, the city park and veterans memorial, with a bandstand for community events
Copperas Cove, just east, for shopping, dining, Rabbit Fest and Hills of Cove Golf Course
Lampasas, west on US 190, the Lampasas County seat

Schools

Kempner is served by Lampasas ISD. Some rural addresses nearby may fall in other districts, so I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.

Homes and acreage

Kempner has small-town homes in and around the city, plus rural acreage and land in the surrounding Lampasas County countryside. Buying land comes with its own questions, so I'll help you check the details that matter:

Water: wells or a water supply corporation
Septic systems and soil
Surveys, easements and road access
Ag or wildlife tax exemptions
Deed restrictions, minerals and floodplain

A little history

The community went by several names, including Taylor's Creek and Slaughtersville, before the Santa Fe railroad arrived in 1882. The new post office was named for Harris Kempner, a Galveston merchant and railroad director.
