Living in Benbrook, TX

Benbrook is a city of about 24,500 in the southwest corner of Tarrant County, roughly 10 miles from downtown Fort Worth. It's built around Benbrook Lake, with rolling hills, golf courses and trails, and it has a quieter, established feel while still being minutes from Fort Worth.

Getting around

I-20 and US 377 (Benbrook Boulevard) both run through Benbrook, and Loop 820 begins at I-20 on the city's north side. That makes the drive to downtown Fort Worth, the Cultural District and Weatherford straightforward. Dallas is about 45 miles east, and DFW Airport is about 35 miles away.

Schools

Most of Benbrook is served by Fort Worth ISD, including Benbrook Middle-High School, which became a combined middle and high school in 2014. Some homes on the edges of the city may fall in neighboring districts, so I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.

Homes and neighborhoods

Benbrook has a lot of established neighborhoods with mature trees, many built from the 1960s through the 1990s, along with golf course homes, homes with lake and hill views, and some newer construction on the south and west sides. You'll also find larger lots on the edges of town, which is a draw for buyers who want room without leaving Tarrant County.

A little history

The area was first called Miranda. The name changed after the Texas and Pacific Railway finished its line through town in 1880 and named the station for settler James M. Benbrook. Benbrook incorporated as a village in 1947, the same year work began on the Benbrook Dam.
