Living in Copperas Cove, TX

Copperas Cove is known as the City of Five Hills. It's the largest city in Coryell County, sitting at the county's southern corner just west of Killeen and Fort Hood, with small pieces in Lampasas and Bell Counties. It has a hometown feel and easy access to the post.

Getting around

I-14/US 190 is the main road through town. It runs about 28 miles east to I-35 in Belton and about 19 miles west to Lampasas. FM 116 heads north to Gatesville, about 26 miles away. Killeen Regional Airport is just a few miles outside the city limits.

Schools

Most of the city is in Copperas Cove ISD, and the Lampasas County portion is in Lampasas ISD. I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.

A little history

The post office opened in 1879, and the Santa Fe railroad arrived in 1882. Residents first asked for the name "Cove," but it was taken, so they chose Copperas Cove after the taste of the nearby spring water.
