Living in Manor, TX

Manor is a fast-growing city in eastern Travis County, about 12 miles from downtown Austin. It still has a small historic downtown, but most of the growth has come from new neighborhoods, which makes Manor one of the closer-in options for newer homes in the Austin area.

Getting around

US 290 runs through Manor, and SH 130 is just to the west. That puts downtown Austin, the airport, Pflugerville and Round Rock within an easy drive, and you can reach Elgin and Bastrop County by heading east on 290.

Schools

Most of Manor is served by Manor ISD, and a small part of the city falls in Elgin ISD. Because the lines can be close, I always confirm the school assignment for a specific address.

Homes and neighborhoods

Most homes in Manor were built in the last 20 years, and there's still plenty of new construction, which often means builder incentives worth comparing. ShadowGlen is one of the best-known communities, built around its golf course with a water park and pool for residents. Wildhorse Creek and Stonewater are other larger neighborhoods with parks and fields. You'll also find a handful of older homes near downtown and some acreage outside town.

A little history

Manor is named for James B. Manor, who settled on Gilleland Creek and donated right-of-way for the Houston and Texas Central Railway. The town was founded in 1872 and incorporated in 1913.
